Latest Updates from Our Project:

Shaping the Future of Numenera
over 6 years ago – Thu, Sep 12, 2019 at 05:05:09 PM

Your support of Numenera: Into the Ninth World helped us create a load of awesome products that greatly expanded the Numenera setting. But more than that, it shaped the releases for Numenera over the course of more than a year. You helped us define what was, at that time, the future of the Numenera game line.

We invite to you help us do it again. And to get another incredible deal on the books we’re funding. The Numenera: Liminal Shores Kickstarter campaign is funding the products that will drive the Numenera game through 2020—and perhaps even beyond. And along the way you'll uncover never-before-revealed secrets of the prior worlds!

The wonder and mystery of the Ninth World—or more specifically, of the prior worlds—is one of the things that attracts many Numenera players to the game. (Perhaps including you?) The titles we’re funding in the Numenera: Liminal Shores Kickstarter campaign delve into those secrets. There is no end to the mysteries of the prior worlds, and the secrets that will be revealed are only a tiny fraction of what one might discover about them. But if you’ve ever wondered about the Clock of Kala, the engineering of our sun and the solar system, the datasphere, the Amber Monolith and the Obelisk of the Water God, Le Temple du Frogue, or the strange Caecilian Jungle—and much more—you’ll want these books.

You can get an awesome Kickstarter-only deal on those titles and more through the Liminal Shores Kickstarter campaign. But it ends tomorrow, so back it now!

Forgetting Doomsday at Gen Con (Also Free RPG Day and Other News)
almost 8 years ago – Tue, Jun 05, 2018 at 04:48:43 PM

Every year the official Numenera events at Gen Con sell out, and every year we add more. This year is no exception: We’ve scheduled more Numenera games than ever before. The adventure this year is Forgetting Doomsday, and the only way to get a taste of it this summer is to sign up for one of our Gen Con sessions, before they all sell out!

(Weeeellll, there is one other way: Why not GM one of these games? We’re still looking for a few more GMs for our Gen Con events. It’s fun and easy, and you can get some great swag, including an exclusive print book with all of our Gen Con adventures, some other great GMing stuff, and even your Gen Con badge for free! You can find all the details here.)

You might also want to check out An Evening with Monte Cook Games, our gathering at a secret underground bar Thursday night. Hang with the MCG crew and other Numenera fans and GMs, get the scoop on MCG news, and enjoy a peaceful break from the Gen Con madness!

The Night Clave—And Other Great Things for Numenera!
over 8 years ago – Tue, Oct 24, 2017 at 08:06:24 PM

Hello, Ninth World Kickstarter backers—

The Night Clave is shipping from the printer as I type this, which means we’re going to start fulfilling it to you in the next few days. We’re super excited about this second official Numenera novel, by Monte and Shanna—it’s really good! If you’re getting The Night Clave, in print or ebook, look for your fulfillment email soon!

Now have a look at this:

That’s the cover art for just one of eight—EIGHT—new books we’ve funded in the Numenera 2: Discovery and Destiny Kickstarter campaign. Plus the Ruin Deck. Plus we’re closing in on a stretch goal unlocking a tenth title. One of those books is a Kickstarter exclusive, so if you want it, or want a piece of this once-in-a-lifetime deal, you’d better hurry: This record-breaking Kickstarter is in its final days!

We’re making a two-book set to replace the current Numenera corebook. Numenera Destiny gives you an entire new way to play Numenera, building communities and lifting the Ninth World out of its dark age and into the future. Numenera Discovery revamps the character types, giving you loads of new options, along with all new adventures, changes to how foci work, expanded coverage of the Ninth World, new art, and changes to how the rules are presented to make the game play even faster and more fun. They come in a beautiful slipcase loaded with extras (including an Order of Truth medallion!). And best of all: This isn’t a new edition, so your existing characters, campaign, and supplements will still work at your gaming table.

Here are some other great reasons you don’t want to miss this campaign:

  • Every print book reward and add-on comes with the PDF for free!
  • Backers get an exclusive 64-page book that won’t be available anywhere else; it’s included (PDF and/or print) in every backer level.
  • Backers are helping shape the story of a Ninth World community throughout the campaign, and the results will affect the content of Numenera products. (As far as we know, this is unlike anything ever done before on Kickstarter!)
  • Stretch goals have improved the components of the new corebooks, making them better for everyone. Your contribution, as a backer, is making Numenera seriously better!
  • The basic corebook levels include the corebooks with all the upgrades, PDFs of the corebooks, the 64-page supplement, and another PDF supplement. The All the Books levels offer an even more incredible deal—NINE books, counting the stretch goal we’re on the verge of hitting!
  • Our friends at inXile are giving every backer a coupon for half off Torment: Tides of Numenera, the critically-acclaimed CRPG. Just back for at least $25 (the coupon alone is worth almost that much!)
  • Due to the success of the campaign, we’ve created some really cool Numenera accessories. You don’t want to miss the Numenera Player’s Kit, with some really cool, personalized components!

This groundbreaking campaign is in its final days. Help make Numenera even more awesome, and grab an incredible deal for yourself along the way. But don’t dawdle—it’s almost over!

Take a peek into The Night Clave!
over 8 years ago – Wed, Oct 04, 2017 at 11:00:25 PM

Iadace, Ninth World Kickstarter Backers—

The Night Clave, the final physical reward from this campaign, is off to press. We’ve just opened up preorders for the hardcover at the MCG Shop, so folks who didn’t back this campaign (or backers whose rewards don’t include the book) can get it. And we have something special just for you: A sample chapter you can download right now.

(You unlocked a sample chapter of The Poison Eater during the campaign, and that was so popular that we decided to do it for The Night Clave as well.)

The Night Clave, by Monte and Shanna, is the second official Numenera novel. It will be released in ebook and softcover from Angry Robot Books, and available in bookstores everywhere, but the deluxe hardcover edition is available only from MCG. Download the sample chapter and enjoy! And look for the full version, in hardcover and ebook (and very likely in audiobook), in November.

The Numenera 2: Discover and Destiny Kickstarter campaign is now underway, and if you’re a Numenera fan you don’t want to miss this one. Check out some of the things we’ve already unlocked:

  • Priests of the Aeons: This 160-page hardcover includes new foci and descriptors, cyphers and equipment, and other options and items for your character. It also covers the Aeon Priesthood in detail, giving you information on working with—or joining—the Aeon Priesthood to help enlighten the Ninth World.
  • Building Tomorrow: More installations and items to build, more allies to recruit for your community, more sample communities to build from—and more challenges to face. Building Tomorrow is a 192-page hardcover sourcebook that expands on the community-related content introduced in Numenera Destiny.
  • Slaves of the Machine God: A powerful overlord with an army of automatons: is this a simple, straightforward threat to you and your companions, or is there something more going on than meets the eye? An epic adventure of twists and turns in a 120-page softcover.
  • Numenera Player's Guide: Create characters, explore the setting, and learn the basic rules in this inexpensive second copy of key rules and setting material. The 64-page softcover is perfect for getting a taste of the game, for having an extra rules and setting reference on hand at the gaming table, or for game masters to hand to new players.
  • An upgrade to the slipcase 2-corebook set that includes additional content and an Order of Truth medallion. This goes to every backer who gets the two corebooks in print.
  • And all that’s on top of The Trilling Shard, a Kickstarter-exclusive sourcebook that backers are helping to shape. Plus you get Discover Your Destiny, a unique PDF that introduces the changes in Numenera Discover and Numenera Destiny.
  • And we’re working on unlocking our next stretch goal: The Ruin Deck.

This campaign is on a record-setting pace, and the way we’re working with backers to defend Ellomyr and shape The Trilling Shard is like nothing that’s ever been done on Kickstarter. We hope you’ll check it out and join us!
