IMPORTANT INFO for the End of the Campaign
over 10 years ago – Wed, Sep 09, 2015 at 08:18:08 PM

Hello, Ninth World Kickstarter backers—

This incredible Kickstarter campaign is coming to an end in an hour or so, and we've put together a short checklist for you to look over before we bring this wild ride to its exciting end. We want everyone to be happy, and we don't want any unpleasant surprises for you or for us. To avoid any delays or problems in getting your rewards, please take a look at all of these points to ensure you're all set:

1. Double Check Your Pledge.
Go right now to the Kickstarter page and look at the backer level you've chosen as it is shown in the Backer Level table in the text. (We recommend you go there, rather than the backer levels along the right, because the latter were locked down by Kickstarter at the beginning of the campaign and don’t reflect any changes we might have made as the campaign grew.) Make sure you have the backer level you want. If you have selected add-on rewards, double-check your math one more time to make sure that the total of all your add-ons, plus your backer level, equals the amount of your pledge. Please keep in mind that we can't issue refunds.

2. Credit Card.
Please make sure your credit card information is current and correct. Failures in processing may cause delays or prevent you from getting your stuff.

3. Last Minute Reward Add-Ons. Once the Kickstarter campaign is over you won't be able modify your pledge using Kickstarter for any reason. Opportunities exclusive to the Kickstarter may no longer be available.

We hope to make some add-ons available, for a limited time, through our pledge management system. We can’t guarantee it, though, so if there’s something you want, now’s the time to be sure you get it.

4. Additional Updates. The Kickstarter campaign is ending, but we’re doing business together for some time—some of your rewards won’t ship for many months! We don’t have an automatic, foolproof way to reach you with important news about your rewards, so please make sure our updates don’t get overlooked or sent to your spam filter.

5. How Do You Spell Your Name? This is going to sound silly and condescending—sorry—but it’s a real issue, and there’s no other choice but to confront it head-on. You’d be surprised how many people misspell or omit critical information when they provide it to us. This creates problems with shipping and sending rewards. When you provide information—your name, address, and so on—please pay close attention to all the details! If you live overseas, and your name or address includes special or accented characters, if at all possible please instead use the closest standard alphabetical character. Accented characters are often garbled as the intarwebs try to convert them into American text; an "É" may come through the system written as "$%^", rendering your address undeliverable. Sometimes we can suss out the correct spelling, but often not.

It’s been a great campaign, and we really appreciate your support! Thanks for making these great Into the Ninth World titles, and all the stretch goals we’ve hit, a reality!

Yes! Another Stretch Goal Hit!
over 10 years ago – Wed, Sep 09, 2015 at 08:17:43 PM

Hello, Ninth World Kickstarter backers—

It was only an hour or so ago that I shot out the last update, announcing that we’d hit another stretch goal. You guys are killing it today!

Having passed $400,000, we’re going to upgrade the production values of Monte’s novel The Night Clave, among other things giving it interior maps and illustrations. We’re super-excited about this. It portends great things for the future of the Numenera fiction line that we’re able to launch it with two deluxe, hardcover edition novels. Thanks for making this a reality!

Building a Bigger Beast!

The next stretch goal is even meatier—or perhaps creaturier. Get us to $415,000, and we’ll increase the size of the Ninth World Bestiary 2 by 32 pages. That’s a 20% increase in content. Or, put another way, about thirty additional creatures to add to your game. Bring more Ninth World wonder, weirdness, and danger to your campaign!

There's an Hour and a Half Left

So share, tweet, post, and keep spreading the word. We can make this happen, but only if we pull together!

Join Us for the Campaign’s End!

We’re going to gather via G+ as the campaign closes. If you’d like to take part, join us about ten minutes before the campaign ends. (The campaign ends at 8:00PM EDT; 5:00PM PDT) We’d love to see you there!

Please keep sharing! #NinthWorldKS

Wow! You’ve Hit ANOTHER Stretch Goal!
over 10 years ago – Wed, Sep 09, 2015 at 08:17:26 PM

Hello, Ninth World Kickstarter backers—

I told you! I’ve said it several times: The final days of a Kickstarter are often a wild, exciting ride, and we can still keep adding stretch goals to your rewards. Well, you’ve proved me right (and I suspect we’re still not finished)—we just tipped over the $390,000 mark, making the Kickstarter-exclusive double-sided poster for the Ninth World Bestiary 2 a reality!

(And here’s a cool side effect: This doesn’t just make your reward better (assuming you’re getting the All the Ebooks and/or All the Print Books package—which 95% of you are). It also makes the unfolded poster maps add-on better, at no increase in price!)

Are we done? WE ARE NOT DONE!

Let’s Upgrade Monte’s Novel. . .

We’re so thrilled that this Kickstarter campaign has launched the Numenera novel line—and, with the recent addition of Monte’s novel, launched it in force! Earlier in the campaign, through a stretch goal, we upgraded the first novel, The Poison Eater, to a deluxe hardcover format that includes interior maps and illustrations.

Let’s make the splash even bigger—let’s do the same thing with Monte’s The Night Clave. If we get to $400,000, we’ll give Monte’s novel the same treatment. The novel will get beautiful, all-new interior artwork and maps, as well as other upgraded elements of its production. This will be a lovely edition for your bookshelf, and really launch the Numenera fiction line in grand style.

But that’s not all!

Let’s Also Make a Bigger Bestiary!

We’ve unlocked PDF supplements for Into the Night, Into the Deep, and Into the Outside, but let’s go a step beyond that for the Ninth World Bestiary 2. Let’s make the bestiary bigger! If we get to $415,000, we’ll increase the size of the Ninth World Bestiary 2 from 160 pages to 192 pages. That’s 32 pages of additional content, in both the PDF and print versions of the book. That’ll let us add thirty or so new creatures to the Ninth World—and the realms beyond it!

We Can Absolutely Make That Happen

We only have a few hours left, but these can be the most exciting, fast-paced hours of the campaign. $415,000 is quite a ways away, but we can do it—IF you keep spreading the word. Take a moment to write one or two sentences about why you think this campaign is cool, and send it out as a tweet or post. Feel free to grab a piece of art from the KS page if you like. There are still people you know who don’t really know about this campaign.

Join Us for the Campaign’s End!

We’re going to gather via G+ as the campaign closes. If you’d like to take part, join us about ten minutes before the campaign ends. (That’s at 8:00PM EDT; 5:00PM PDT) We’d love to see you there!

And keep sharing! #NinthWorldKS

Five Cool Things You Didn’t Know about This Kickstarter
over 10 years ago – Wed, Sep 09, 2015 at 04:41:09 PM

Hello, Ninth World Kickstarter backers—

First: If you haven’t sent out a tweet or post about this campaign in the last 30 minutes, do so now. Seriously. Believe it or not, no matter how many times you’ve shouted from the rooftops, you still have friends who haven’t gotten the word. They’ll be sad if they miss this campaign! (We hear from folk like that after every Kickstarter.)

OK, on to other things. Cool things, to be precise. Five cool things you didn’t know about this Kickstarter campaign!

This Campaign Isn’t Just for Gamers

We’ve funded two novels to launch the Numenera novel line. And we have backer levels specifically for folk who love fiction but aren’t looking for game books. If you have a gaming buddy who never buys game books—or a friend or S.O. who’s intrigued by the Numenera setting but isn’t a gamer—recommend the JUST THE NOVEL or NOVEL LOVER backer levels to them! (But don’t dawdle—they only have a few hours to get on board!)

Your Name in Print in an MCG Product

One of the things we love about Kickstarters is that we can involve you in the future of our products. Your suggestions and support help shape our books. The Ninth World Bestiary 2 is a perfect example—we settled on that as the fourth hardcover of the campaign specifically because of your comments. But beyond that, we wanted to give you a direct hand in the creation of a bit of the Ninth World, and thus the ARTIFACT PATRON backer level. We want to mix some of your ideas into the Artifact Deck, and backers at that level will get credit, in print, for the contribution!

Some of the Coolest Stuff Is Exclusive!

Another cool thing about Kickstarters is that we can make things that wouldn’t be practical through conventional sales channels. Take the slipcase, for example. This will be a beautiful way to store and display your Numenera books—but it’s something that would never succeed if we relied solely on normal sales channels. Too unusual and risky. Kickstarter makes it possible. BUT: With specialty items like these, we print to order. We’ll make exactly as many as needed to fulfill the Kickstarter, and after that, they’re gone. (Actually, we’ll make some extras so we can deal with items lost or damaged in shipping, and sometimes there are a few leftovers from the extras.) So if you’ve been thinking about the slipcase, the unfolded poster map, the playmat, or other add-ons, get them now!

Partygoers Are Going to Get Some Neat Goodies

We’re so excited about the launch party (to be held on November 20th at the AFK Elixirs and Eatery in Renton, Washington) that we’ve already started putting together the goodie bags! The AFK is so excited they’ve already started coming up with the Ninth World-themed menu of drinks and nibbles (there are already several Numenera-themed drinks on their cocktail menu). And we’re working to get the ENTIRE MCG staff to the event. Gamers who attend this party are going to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime gaming experience. We hope you’ll be among them! (And remember, it’s not just the NINTH WORLD PARTIER level that gets you an invite—the invitation is included in all the higher levels as well!)

Game Online with Monte, Learn His Secrets!

Monte’s already started to think about the adventure he’s going to run for backers at the GAME WITH MONTE ONLINE level. And his ideas will likely reveal some secrets about the Ninth World that have never before been revealed—and might never again. Monte’s an incredible GM, so these backers are going to have a great time. And they’re going to be wiser than the rest of us about the Ninth World’s secrets!

Let’s Make a Bigger Bestiary

Our next stretch goal makes the Ninth World Bestiary 2’s poster double-sided, but that’s not the end of our ambition for this title. The other hardcovers funded by this campaign got PDF supplements, but we’d like to go a step beyond that: We want to make the bestiary bigger. Let’s keep the momentum going, so we can look at unlocking this and other stretch goals!

And Join Us for the Campaign’s End!

We’re going to gather via G+ as the campaign closes. If you’d like to take part, join us about ten minutes before the campaign ends. (That’s at 8:00PM EDT; 5:00PM PDT) We’d love to see you there!

And keep sharing! This campaign can still add some more cool stretch goals!

The Night Clave—and a First Look at Into the Night!
over 10 years ago – Wed, Sep 09, 2015 at 04:36:33 PM

Hello, Ninth World Kickstarter backers—

Loads of great news for you this morning!

Have a Novel!

You just took us over the $370,000 mark, making Monte’s novel The Night Clave a reality! The Night Clave is the second book in the Numenera fiction line, and you’ll get it in PDF and popular ebook formats (in the All the Ebooks package) or hardcover (in the All the Print Books package).

This brings to nine the total number of books funded by this campaign and included in the All the Ebooks and All the Print Books packages. Nine!

  • Into the Night
  • Into the Deep
  • Into the Outside
  • Character Options 2
  • Ninth World Bestiary 2
  • Exclusive Map Book
  • Exclusive Supplements Book
  • The Poison Eater
  • The Night Clave
  • (And while we’re at it, let’s not forget the Artifact Deck. So it’s really ten print products!)

We can do more—maybe lots more! Read on!

Next: Let’s Beef Up That Bestiary!

The other big hardcover game books have double-sided poster maps and PDF supplements, and we think those would be great additions to the Ninth World Bestiary 2 as well. So, get us to $390,000, and we’ll double-side the bestiary’s poster! We have several cool ideas of what to do on the second side, but here’s a leading contender: Since the other posters feature an in-world view of the map that’s on the first side (that is, the same map, but as if drawn by an Aeon Priest or other denizen of the Ninth World), it would be cool to do something similar with the bestiary poster.

Remember, this also applies to the unfolded poster maps add-on. If you get that add-on, you’ll get ALL of the posters funded by this campaign, delivered rolled instead of folded. Great for displaying these beautiful posters!

We'll start shipping Into the Night to backers as soon as the campaign closes and we've gathered the post-campaign data. (Note: It usually takes Kickstarter about two weeks to turn over the necessary data, so we're not talking tomorrow. But you won't have to wait long!)

A Look at Into the Night

Wait--are those photos of actual poster maps above? Yes! Not half an hour before writing this update, the FedEx guy showed up at my door with the press approval copy of Into the Night! This is the first copy off the presses, sent to us to approve the printing. That means it ships from the printer today! I knew you’d like a peek at it, so here you go! You are the first humans other than me to see this--even Monte and the creative team haven't had a look at it yet!

Keep Telling People!

In our past Kickstarter campaigns, we’ve often hit several stretch goals in the last day. We can certainly do that today, if we keep spreading the word. Let’s double-side that poster, and see if we can’t make more cool things happen as well. The only way it so keep spreading the word!

With your help, we can reach even more stretch goals before the closing bell!
