A Launch Party for Into the Ninth World!

Hello, Ninth World Kickstarter backers—
To quote Austin Powers: “It’s my party, baby, and it freaks me out! Yeah!”
Actually, it’s Numenera’s party, celebrating the launch of the Into the Ninth World books, and it’s going to be held at AFK Elixirs and Eatery. Food, drinks, games, prizes, and a great time hanging out with Monte, Shanna, and Bruce! Are you coming?
The AFK Might Be the Ultimate Gaming Bar
If you’ve never heard of AFK Elixirs and Eatery, you should definitely check it out. If I told you it was a restaurant and bar with a gamer theme, you might be tempted to imagine a run-of-the-mill pub with a few board games in the corner and a Xbox on widescreen at the back—but no, the AFK is something else! The walls are festooned with photos, game covers, and character sheets autographed by scores of famous game designers. The extensive drinks list is pure geekery, including a couple of Numenera-themed cocktails (I like the Nano Spirit Mist, myself). It sits within just a few miles of numerous game company headquarters, including Wizards of the Coast, Paizo, Green Ronin, Lone Shark Games, and of course MCG—making it a great place for celebrity gamer spotting. And of course people do play games, as they enjoy the full dinner menu and very complete bar.
The Launch Party
The launch party will be held at the AFK some time in October (or possibly November). The entire creative team will be there—Monte, Shanna, and Bruce, at the very least—hanging out with the attendees. The AFK goes all out for parties, creating a special themed menu of drinks and food.
And what’s a party without some party favors? If you come to the party, Monte will personally hand you your gift bag as you walk in the door. We’ve started putting them together, and they’ll look something like this:
It’s going to be a lot of fun, and it’s a great time to meet and hang out with the staff and our friends. If you’re in the Seattle area, or can make your way there, we hope you can join us. An invitation is included at the NINTH WORLD PARTIER level and above!
In the Mean Time. . .
We’ve had an absolutely incredible weekend—so far! At this rate, it’s not out of the question that we could make the Ninth World Bestiary 2 a reality some time today! And that would give us three more exciting days to heap on some more great stretch goals. We still have lots of ideas for cools stuff to add to your rewards, so keep spreading the word. More Fiction!
Having hit this stretch goal, Monte, Bruce, and Shanna will write a set of short stories based on the Into the Ninth World books. This short anthology will be a fantastic glimpse into the deep, the night, and the outside, and a great way to wet your whistle for The Poison Eater—and any other Numenera novels the future might hold!
And Now: Scores of New Creatures
We’ve been talking about the Ninth World Bestiary 2 (a working title) for some time now, so we’re super-excited that it’s now our next stretch goal! If we hit this $300,000, there’ll be another book added to the All the Ebooks and All the Print Books packages! This will be a 160-page hardcover featuring well over 100 all-new creatures for use in your Numenera campaign. Many creatures will be focused on the Into the Ninth World themes, but many others could be encountered anywhere in the Ninth World—so it’ll be a great book for wherever your campaign takes you. It’ll be added to the All the Ebooks package (in PDF format) and All the Print Books package (in print). That’s right: If you’re getting one or both of these packages (and 95% of you are), your reward will increase by another hefty book, at no additional cost to you!
How Can You Make This Happen?
We’ve added over 200 new backers in the past 48 hours, and look how the campaign has soared! You’ve Added Another Book! So What’s Next?

Yesterday was an absolutely incredible day, and we’re on fire again today! It’s amazing to report that you’ve taken us over ANOTHER stretch goal, less than 24 hours after I wrote the update for the last one. Thanks for your support—and remember, we still have five days left and a ton of great ideas for stretch goals we’d love to add to your rewards!
The PDF Supplement Book in Print!
We’ll come up with a great name for this title when we have a little time to breathe, but for now we’re just excited to make it a reality. We’ll take the PDF supplements (stretch goals you’ve already unlocked) plus the Instant Adventure (you unlocked it as a community achievement) and turn them into a Kickstarter-exclusive print book. So in addition to those PDFs, the All the Print Books package gets one more title!
And Now Some More Fiction!
Early in this campaign, you hit a stretch goal that we here at MCG think of as one of the most important achievements of this campaign: You unlocked The Poison Eater, the flagship novel of the Numenera fiction line.
With all the great content you have funded through this campaign, we’re going to be busy for a long time. You’ve already unlocked the release of a sample chapter of The Poison Eater before the end of the year, but how about some additional fiction we can get out sooner rather than later? If we get to $280,000, we’ll produce a set of short fiction pieces, similar to Tales from the Ninth World and More Tales from the Ninth World. These stories will be themed around the Into the Ninth World Books—in other words, they’ll touch on exploration into the night, the deep, or the outside.
Don’t Forget the Bestiary!
And after that: It’s a doozy! As we’ve been talking about for some time, if we get to $300,000 we’ll produce a second bestiary. We’re currently calling it the Ninth World Bestiary 2, but that’s just a working title. The important thing is that it will be a 160-page hardcover featuring well over 100 all-new creatures for use in your Numenera campaign. Many creatures will be focused on the Into the Ninth World themes, but many others could be encountered anywhere in the Ninth World—so it’ll be plenty useful wherever your campaign takes you. It’ll be added to the All the Ebooks and All the Print Books packages, so your rewards will suddenly, and at no additional cost to you, get even more awesome!
There’s only one way we can get there: Spread the word. Shout from the rooftops! Tell everyone you meet! OK, maybe that’s a little excessive, but always remember: There are thousands and thousands of gamers who haven’t even heard about this campaign yet. Some of them are people you know. Get the word out to them: They’ll get in on an incredible, Kickstarter-exclusive deal, and you’ll get new stretch goals added to your reward. Win!

The All the Ebooks and especially the All the Print Books packages just keep getting better by the day—and we hope to keep adding more stretch goals and making them into an even better deal. We’re already well over halfway to another stretch goal today!
But that’s not all—have you been keeping an eye on the add-ons? Check these out:
Unfolded Poster Map Set ($20): An extra copy of every poster map funded by this campaign. The best part: These maps ship rolled in a tube (not folded), making them awesome for display. As new posters are added through stretch goals, they become part of this add-on—so as we reach more stretch goals this add-on gets even better!
Numenera Playmat ($20): In Numenera, players roll all the dice. The beautiful Numenera playmat gives you a great die-rolling surface and puts that handy information out where everyone can reference it. It's a gorgeous and useful centerpiece for your Numenera game.
Playtest Access ($30): Interested in joining the playtest, but don't want to pledge for the books in print? (This is especially handy for overseas backers who don't want to pay for expensive overseas shipping.) With this add-on, you receive all the advance materials that playtesters receive and can participate in the playtest if you wish, just like backers at the INTO THE PLAYTEST reward level. INTO THE PLAYTEST is still the best deal if you want the print books, though.

This beautiful and sturdy slipcase will fit the three Into the Ninth World hardcover game books—or any three of our 160-page hardcovers (such as the Ninth World Bestiary and Sir Arthour’s Guide). An elegant way to store and display your Numenera books!
Kickstarter-Exclusive Books: The Map Book in print and PDF Supplements Book in print are exclusive to this Kickstarter. We’ll print them to order, and they won’t be available through retail. If you want an extra copy of one of these titles, add them on now, because you probably won’t have another chance!
Plus you can get an extra print copy of Into the Night, Into the Deep, Into the Outside, The Poison Eater, or Character Options 2. And it’ll come with any Kickstarter-exclusive print extras, like the poster maps.
And, for those new to Numenera or looking to flesh out their collections, the Numenera corebook and three bundles that include all the existing print books!
Add-ons are rewards that you add to your existing reward level. Simply increase your pledge by the appropriate amount—click the a little blue button near the top of the Kickstarter page labeled Manage. For example, if you want a slipcase, just increase your pledge by $25. (We also have a handy pledge calculator to help you figure out exactly how much to pledge based on the backer level and add-ons you desire.) After the campaign closes we’ll contact you to clarify what the extra funds are for.

Stretch Goal 19 is Unlocked!

Hello, Ninth World Kickstarter backers—
Wow! You’ve been tearing it up today! I’m psyched to report that we’ve hit yet another stretch goal—our 19th of the campaign so far. As I mentioned in the last update, these last few days of a Kickstarter campaign are often wild and exciting, as people who have been on the fence decide to jump in and new people find out about it. Who knows how many stretch goals we can hit over the next four or five days?
The Character Portfolio
Having taken us over the $255,000 mark, you’ve made the character portfolio a reality. This will be a multi-page version of the character sheet optimized for recording, tracking, and maintaining your character and all the ancillary notes that accrue around him or her over the course of your campaign. It will be as beautiful and functional as the existing character sheet, but give you a lot more room.
In celebration, here’s some new art!
Another Print Book
Here’s what’s next: We want to take all the content from the three PDF supplements already reached as stretch goals, and turn them into a print book. That’s right: Another print book! But wait, there’s more: We’ll also include the Instant Adventure that was unlocked early in the campaign. If we get to $270,000, this book will be added automatically to the All the Print Books package, so if you’re backing at a level that gets you the books in print, you’re going to get ANOTHER book added to your reward!
And remember: We’re cruising toward $300K. If we hit it, we’re going to add the Ninth World Bestiary 2 to the lineup. That’s another 160-page hardcover book in print and PDF, added to your reward if you’re getting the All the Ebooks or All the Print Books packages (and that’s 95% of you).
