The Creature Deck Is a Reality—Let’s Talk Novel!

Hello, Ninth World Kickstarter backers—
Thanks for doing such a good job spreading the word today. It’s paid off: You’ve hit another stretch goal and made the Creature Deck 2 a reality!
The 100-card Creature Deck 2, like the original Creature Deck, will be super helpful when prepping your adventures, running your encounters, or building new encounters on the fly. The deck will include creatures from the Ninth World Bestiary 2, Into the Night, Into the Deep, or Into the Outside. On one side you’ll get all the necessary stats to use the creature in your game, along with a book and page reference to help you find the full listing easily. On the flip side you’ll have an image of the creature you can easily show your players.
(I use the existing Creature Deck all the time for my campaign, and I can personally attest to what a time-saver it is!)
The Launch Party!
This is hot off the presses: We've nailed down a date for the Into the Ninth World launch party. It will be held the evening of Friday, November 20th! We'd originally been thinking October, but by holding it in November we can likely have the entire MCG team there to hang out with you. If you're in the Seattle area, or might be there on the 20th, you should definitely look at NINTH WORLD PARTIER backer level (or higher). We talked a bit about the awesome AFK Elixers and Eatery, and the party we'll hold there, in a recent update.
The Night Clave
Our next goal is The Night Clave, a Numenera novel to be written by Monte. We were really excited when we funded The Poison Eater earlier in this campaign, because it promised the launch of a whole line of fiction for Numenera. Well, if we make it to $370,000, the “line” part of “fiction line” moves from promise to reality. You will have funded not just a single flagship novel, but helped establish a full fiction line.
And you’ll reap the reward! The Night Clave will be added to the All the Print Books package (in hardcover) and All the Ebooks package (in PDF and popular ebook formats). More rewards for you!
Remember, there are still thousands of gamers who haven’t even heard this Kickstarter is happening—and there’s still time to hit this stretch goal and more!
With your help, we can reach these gamers—and make The Night Clave and more a reality!

Guess How Many People DON’T Know about This Campaign

Hello, Ninth World Kickstarter backers—
Monte and Shanna were at Dragon Con this past weekend, where they sat on a combined total of about 300 different panels. OK, it wasn’t that many, but it was probably close to 20. They spoke to lots of folks about lots of topics, both from the stage, around the con, and on the streets.
I was just in a meeting with Monte, and he shared the most striking impression he took away from the con: A shocking number of fans—Numenera players and serious fans of Monte’s work—had no idea this campaign was going on.
Don’t take my word for it: Here’s a tweet Monte sent out just a little while ago:
It’s been a wild day so far. The final phase of a Kickstarter campaign is measured hour-by-hour rather than in days. So if we can tap into these gamers who don’t know about the campaign, the sky is still the limit!
Here’s How: Achievements
Stretch goals are awesome, but we’ve also unlocked some pretty cool achievements over the past few weeks. And the great thing about these is that you hit them by spreading the word—which is another way of pushing toward stretch goals!
Since the last time I updated you on this topic, you’ve hit two more achievements. That takes the total to 38—halfway to unlocking the next goal. If you get us to 40, we’ll make the Numenera character sheet form-fillable. You be able to print it out and fill it in by hand, the old-fashioned way, just fine, but also to open the PDF in a compatible viewer, and enter your character information on your computer or device. And then print it, use it on-screen, or save it to edit later when your character goes up in tier or otherwise changes! And not just one version of the sheet—we’ll make the original form-fillable, and do the same thing with the Into the Ninth World alternate character sheet and the PDF of the character portfolio.
Here’s how YOU can help unlock those achievements, and spread the word about this Kickstarter to the thousands of gamers—even thousands of hardcore Numenera fans—who still don’t know this Kickstarter is happening:
With your help, we can reach these gamers—and drive this campaign to even more stretch goals!

Shoot the Moon

Hello, Ninth World Kickstarter backers—
Hey everyone! Monte here. Charles writes most of the updates nowadays, but I just wanted to take the time to personally say how much your support of Numenera has meant to me over the last three years.
When Shanna and I launched the original Numenera Kickstarter campaign, I had no idea if anyone would be interested. We were, of course, blown away by the response it got, and since then, many thousands of people have discovered the game after the Kickstarter. Numenera is now a hefty product line. There's a Numenera deckbuilding game, and of course a computer game on the way. Numenera itself has been translated into six other languages, and we even did a big deluxe boxed set edition.
That initial Kickstarter launched Monte Cook Games (including The Strange and the Cypher System as a whole). It is why we are able to do everything we're doing. During that first campaign, some of you will remember, as I was putting out stretch goals, I jokingly said that if we reached $500,000, we'd make a Numenera short film. Well, much to my surprise, we reached that goal. Now, all of the various rewards of that Kickstarter are fulfilled, including the fact that we're making a short film.
I've been joking around with the rest of the team that if we have a Numenera Kickstarter campaign that exceeds the $517,255 we raised to fund Numenera, we'd do something equally special. I thought I'd share the thought with you guys too, because you'll all a part of this as well.
Now, I'm not saying this is at all likely. I'll be honest—it is not. So this isn't really a stretch goal. But it is a promise: If we reach $517,256, there will be an ongoing Numenera comic book.
Why a comic book? Because, as with the film stretch goal, I'm a huge comics fan. I love the comic book medium, and I have read comics for more than 35 years. Like with the movie, I don't know how we'd do this. (Although unlike with the movie, I do have some experience writing comics.) But frankly, that was the inspiring part of the Numenera short film goal. It pushed us beyond what we would normally try. So I thought I'd just throw this out there. Not really a stretch goal, but a pledge.
Mostly, though, I just want you to know that I really appreciate your support, and I'm willing to shoot the moon if you are.

Have a Poster with that Bestiary!

Hello, Ninth World Kickstarter backers—
Can you believe it: we’ve hit our twenty-fourth stretch goal! Thanks to your support and help spreading the word, we’ve added a Kickstarter-exclusive poster to the Ninth World Bestiary 2.
We also crossed over the 48-hour bell—there are now less than two days left in this campaign. If our past Kickstarters are any guide, these last two days are likely to be a wild ride. We know from past experience that it’s entirely possible for the final two days to be among the most exciting in the campaign, but ONLY IF YOU KEEP SPREADING THE WORD.
Twenty-four stretch goals under our belts—but we can still add even more!
Starting with a New Creature Deck!
The Artifact Deck was one of the items originally funded by this campaign. Since then, we’ve also added 30 cards worth of expansions to the existing Numenera Creature Deck and another 30 cards to the Numenera Cypher Deck—plus we’re going to work with DriveThruRPG to build a custom cypher card creator that lets you design your own cypher cards and have them printed with the same production quality as the existing decks.
Why these decks? Because they’re incredible tools for inspiration and they save loads of time during game prep and play. Who has all the time they’d like for game prep? Who likes it when an exciting game is suddenly bogged down by digging out books, rolling on tables, and looking stuff up? No one! These decks do the work for you. For my money, in terms of pure utility they’re often the best bang for the buck in gaming.
So, with a great bestiary comes great responsibility. No, wait, that’s not right. How about with a great bestiary comes a great Creature Deck? A Creature Deck 2 to go with the Ninth World Bestiary 2? That sounds better!
Get us to $340,000, and we’ll create a 100-card Creature Deck. The deck will contain creatures from the Ninth World Bestiary 2, Into the Night, Into the Deep, or Into the Outside. On one side you’ll get all the necessary stats to use the creature in your game, along with a book and page reference to help you find the full listing easily. On the flip side you’ll have an image of the creature you can easily show your players. Super helpful when prepping your adventures, running your encounters, or building new encounters on the fly. Because players never take an adventure in an unexpected direction, right? The Creature Deck 2 will be offered as an add-on.
The Night Clave
And remember, if we make it to $370,000, we’ll add a second novel to the Numenera fiction line: The Night Clave. This will be written by Monte, and added to the All the Print Books package (in hardcover) and All the Ebooks package (in PDF and popular ebook formats).
Only You Can Make This Happen!
What do the original Numenera Kickstarter campaign, the Kickstarter campaign for The Strange, and the campaign for the Exclusive Numenera Boxed Set Edition have in common? They all hit multiple stretch goals in their last two days. This one will do it too—if you keep spreading the word! Tell your friends. Share and tweet. Here are some handy links you can share right this very minute!
It’s going to be an awesome couple of days! #NinthWorldKS

You Did It: The Bestiary Will Happen!
– Mon, Sep 07, 2015 at 11:22:22 PM
Hello, Ninth World Kickstarter backers—
You’ve done it! You’ve pushed the total over $300,000, making the Ninth World Bestiary 2 a reality! If you’re getting the All the Ebooks and/or the All the Print Books package (and that’s almost all of you), your reward just got seriously better!
The Ninth World Bestiary 2 (that’s just the working title, by the way) will be a 160-page hardcover featuring well over 100 all-new creatures for use in your Numenera campaign. Many creatures will be focused on the Into the Ninth World themes, but many others could be encountered anywhere in the Ninth World—so it’ll be a handy regardless of where your Numenera campaign takes you. (And, of course, it’s mechanically compatible with any Cypher System game—so you can borrow creatures for your game of The Strange, or any campaign you’re running using the Cypher System Rulebook!) It’ll be added to the All the Ebooks package (in PDF format) and All the Print Books package (in print).
This campaign is still rockin’, so we’re not done with stretch goals!
A Poster for the Bestiary? You Bet!
If you own the original Ninth World Bestiary, you know that the endpapers serve as a neat size comparison chart of all the creatures in the book. We later thought that would make a really cool poster, so we included just that in the Exclusive Numenera Boxed Set Edition. It looked really cool.
Since we’ve unlocked poster maps for all the other hardcover game books funded by this campaign, why not do the same for the Bestiary? If we hit $320,000, your Bestiary will come with a Kickstarter-exclusive poster featuring the same sort of size comparison we did for the original Ninth World Bestiary. Beautiful and handy!
(Oh, and one more thing: This stretch goal also improves the unfolded poster set add-on—if we reach this goal, there will be one more poster in that set, at no extra cost!)
And Lets Do Another Novel!
We still have three days left--plenty of time to hit even more stretch goals. Early in the campaign we added The Poison Eater, the flagship Numenera novel to be written by Shanna, to the lineup. This was really thrilling for us, because ultimately we'd like to build an entire fiction line for Numenera.
So let's add yet another book to your reward! If we can get this campaign to $370,000 (and we believe that's quite possible!), we'll add a Numenera second novel, this one by Monte. Like The Poison Eater, we'll add it to the All the Print Books package (in hardcover) and All the Ebooks package (in PDF and popular ebook formats).
Your Help Will Get Us There
This campaign has really been knocking our socks off, especially over the past few days, and it’s down to the great job you’ve been doing spreading the word. Our past campaigns have often hit several stretch goals in the final couple of days—so keep it up, because there’s still more we can do. Believe it or not, we STILL have ideas for books to add to your rewards!
Here are some handy links you can share RIGHT NOW!
We’re really excited about the Bestiary—and about the cool things we can keep doing in the last couple of days of this campaign! #NinthWorldKS
